Morristown is located in Morris County, New Jersey and is home to over 18,000 residents. Morristown was a strategic location during the Revolutionary War, and this history is represented in the Morristown National Historic Park. Washington’s headquarters were located at Jacob Arnold’s Tavern located in the center of town.

For around 6000 years, the Lenni Lenape Native Americans lived in the area. The town was first settled in 1715 by Europeans and was originally named New Hanover.  Morristown became a town in 1865.

Shopping & Dining

Morristown has a number of shopping and dining options.  Century 21 Department Store offers designer merchandise such as apparel, footwear, outerwear and accessories.  Those in search of fine chocolates will appreciate Enjou Chocolat, who specializes in custom chocolates, custom logo chocolates, ice cream, and other sweets. And seasonally there’s the Farmer’s Market in downtown Morristown from June to November. Other unique places to shop include Golden Pineapple, Just Jersey, and Marty's Reliable Cycle.

Dining options abound in Morristown. Steak and seafood lovers will enjoy dinner at Rod's Steak & Seafood Grille, arguably the best steakhouse in town.  The Committed Pig focuses on pork based entrees.  South + Pine is an American eatery that uses fresh seasonal ingredients in a casual dining experience. Other great places to eat include Marjan Fine Persian Grill, The Famished Frog, Laku Sushi, The Office Tavern Grill, and much more.


As of 2015, it’s estimated that there are 18,594 residents in Morristown. Several large companies are based in town – Bayer, Schindler Group, Covanta Energy, and the Morristown & Erie Railway.  Morristown Medical Center is the largest employer with 5500 employees.

Parks & Recreation

The town of Morristown manages 13 parks. Those parks include Elliott Street Playground, Abbett Avenue Park, Budd Street Playground, Burnham Park & Pool, Cauldwell Playground, Harrison Street Playground, Healing Arts Park, Jacob Ford Playground, Jersey Avenue Playground, Lidgerwood Park, Orchard Street Playground, Speedwell Park, and Victor Woodhull Park.


Over 4000 Students in Morristown attend 10 schools in the Morris School District.  Those schools include Lafayette Learning Center, Hillcrest School, Alfred Vail School, Woodland School, Alexander Hamilton School, Thomas Jefferson School, Sussex Avenue School, Normandy Park School, Frelinghuysen Middle School and Morristown High School.

There are also several private schools in Morristown including The Red Oaks School, Assumption Roman Catholic, and The Peck School.
